RECs for Construction

Buildings can earn LEED points by using green power.  The purchase of RECs is one of the most cost-effective and easy methods of obtaining LEED points.  Under EA Credit 6, the use of RECs to offset 35% of energy emissions for two years earns one LEED point.

The benefits of LEED Certification include: lower operating costs; reduced energy and water costs; qualification for tax rebates, zoning allowances, and recognition.

Buildings can also obtain LEED points by installing onsite renewable energy.  EA Credit 2 states that development of onsite renewable energy can earn up to 3 LEED points. Click here to learn more about onsite energy options.
